Just to feel like home, we even had popcorn for dinner! (For those of you who don't know that little detail of our life in Clarksburg....we often have popcorn for dinner on Sunday since we usually eat lunch so late after church and don't want a big meal)
Yesterday was interesting to worship in a Romanian Christian church--filled mostly with youth ages I am guessing 10-30 (but we have discovered that people we think are much younger due to their height and looks are really much older). They had a wonderful praise band which we were told was small. It was fun to sing praise songs in Romanian--words on an overhead fancy projector/screen--great songs but all unfamiliar to us. The minister preached in Romanian (he was actually a substitute since the minister was at a conference) but is actually from PA living here in Romania. After worship we had lunch at a mall (it had McDonalds, KFC...and then Romanian fast food as well as other foods). Dennis was brave and got a typical meal for here: sausage, potatoes (country--sort of like potatoes that you have with pot roast), a cornmeal mush kind of like cream of wheat, and about 15 pickles (!). I had a baked potato that has cheese and sour cream--(but the cheese was melted on it and it was swiss cheese--odd but okay).
After lunch, we went on the "Revolution Tour" with Jim--the co-founder of H2H that spends about half the year here while is wife is at home managing the American part of the mission. We saw the area where the "revolution" took place in 1989. The buildings are beautiful here--saw the Opera house, the home (huge!) of the first king and queen (King Carol) and the building that the final speech of Ceausecu was given on--we saw bullet holes where the guards shot and killed over 1000 people. We stood in the square where there is a new monument built in memory of those that died on that day. Fascinating history.
From there we drove to see the People's Palace--the office that Ceausecu was building for himself--it is the 2nd largest building in the world ! We will tour it today (Monday). We also went into an Orthodox Church which is quite old and beautiful. There was a mass going on while we were there.
Today through Wednesday we will be gone and staying at the Girls Transition house. This is mostly to save on travel to and from the Team House but also to be able to be there for the special outings that will be done as a reward for the children that have earned them. Pray for us in a house of the 5 young girls.....I am sure we will have lots of fun and get to play games and the piano. We will write on paper our adventures and will transfer them when we get time.
It has been fun getting emails from you--pictures of Leah have been wonderful to get but using "Webmail" we are not able to have anything too large. Thank you for your prayers--
